Focus on Quality Education

Coffee with Mayor Stanton and Councilman Gates

I made time in my schedule to hear Phoenix Mayor Stanton at an informal coffee this morning in Sunnyslope at Eye Opener Restaurant on 5th Ave and Hatcher. I had seen the announcements for a few of them before and this one was not only closer to the Stepping Stone Office than the others, but closer to my home, and my own city councilman Bill Gates spoke as well. FYI to Stepping Stone supporters, Councilman Tom Simplot is councilman for our teaching site at Westwood Elementary.

I was heartened to hear Mayor Stanton announce that he had put an Office for Education Relations or Liaison (I’m working from memory here) back into the city budget. The purpose of this position would be for the City of Phoenix to Liaison with the local school districts. It’s always nice to see focus on that which is most important to generations to come; quality education!

Mayor Stanton introduced councilman Gates, who updated the constituency about local developments. It was very wonderful to see politics in action at the grass-roots level and two politicians who get along.
